COVID-19 Medicare Telehealth Items

As of Monday 20th April 2020, all restrictions to do with mandatory bulk billing of Medicare Telehealth services have been lifted. This means that psychologists are no longer required to bulk bill for any services under the special COVID-19 Telehealth item numbers. As a result, from 20th April 2020, psychologists will be free to resume their normal billing practices while providing telehealth services under the special COVID-19 Medicare Telehealth item numbers.

We are pleased that the Government has responded to lobbying and advocacy efforts so that ACPA members and other psychologists can continue to provide vital mental health services and support to the community in this most challenging of times, in a financially viable way, and with the discretion to offer reduced fees or bulk billing as appropriate or necessary. We encourage members to use that discretion to the extent possible, bearing in mind the extreme financial stress being experienced by so many at the moment.
